Stillness before a new beginning
A Sufi retreat between the years
When the year comes to its end, a threshold quietly opens.
A space between what has been and what has not yet revealed itself.
Here, there is nothing to achieve and nothing to become.
There is only the invitation to become still enough to listen.
In silence, the heart becomes receptive. In Dhikr, the soul remembers.
With every breath, the human being returns to the hidden source within.
Ḥuḍūr, presence. To be here. To listen.
To allow what is no longer needed to fall away, and what is still hidden to remain hidden until its time has come.
Meditation, Dhikr, breath and silence accompany these days of inwardness.
The past may complete itself. The future does not yet need a name.
There is only the quiet listening to what Allah is moving in the unseen.
A listening beneath the noise. A returning to the heart. A crossing of the threshold.
Entering the new year not with answers, but with presence.
We begin these days together with a shared Dhikr, which accompanies us throughout the days and nights and is practiced by all participants.
The remaining time is given to individual silence and meditation, following a sequence proposed by Fawzia Al-Rawi.
Five times during the retreat, the group comes together for a simple shared meal, preferably also taken in silence.
May these days become a place where the heart remembers, the breath becomes prayer, and the unseen is allowed to speak in its own time.
